On the one hand, Russia has produced some perfectly good bands, like Merlin. And on the other hand Divina Enema were spawned in that neck of the woods, so a Russian pedigree is no guarantee of quality. Rossomahaar (don't ask me what that means, I do not know.) are a good band, which is a relief. This is their second, I think, and despite being billed as a Black Metal album, it really isn't.

Musically, this is pretty much a cross between Forest Of Impaled and older Behemoth, with some Absu thrown in for good measure. It's like thrashy Black Metal with Death Metal drumming and vocals that alternate between the two styles. Rossomahaar have that BM guitar tone, and they wring out some very cool riffs. The songs are quite technical, and sometimes rather long. The lyrics are not Satanic, and in fact are rather obtuse and strange, as you can probably tell from the song titles. The musicianship and production are both very good, and this is a consistently enjoyable album.

That said, this is not anything other bands are not doing, or have already done, and there is nothing memorable at all about this CD. I like it, but after it's done I can't remember any of it. If you are a fan of any of the bands I mentioned earlier, then this disc is well worth picking up. It's a quality release from an obviously talented band, but as with so many bands a certain lack of focus in the songwriting department keeps this from being a real gem.
